Seeing as the Ska thread went so well, I thought I'd tell you about another genre that I quite enjoy: that of 'Oi!'

'Oi!' is a genre of punk that rose to fame in the late 70s/early 80s. Many were disilluisioned with the pretentious turn that punk took during these years and yearned for a musical style just as gritty as punk but one that reflected the way people actually lived; one of council estates, unemployment, football matches and sessions in the pub. Thus, 'Oi!' was born and it was thoroughly working class. The majority of these new bands came (regrettably) from around London, with the noteworthy exception of 'The Oppressed' and the Angelic Upstarts. If you like your rock hard, then this might just be for you.

I'm guessing it's mostly our age difference. Since you like Slipknot I'm guessing your Mid-teens maybe? I grew up listening to Grunge and playing it my band. Thus, the love I have for it.

metal (slipknot,bfmv,) is nothing like or as bad grunge

suicide silence is far off metal as metal you can understand atleast 80% of lyrics

maybe there not grunge but they are deff not metal

Real Grunge bands came from Seattle in the early nineties. Bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pixies, Screaming Trees. Those bands all rock. I agree that those who enjoy Metal need to have their ears checked though.

The origins of the word "ska" are highly mysterious. No-one really knows where it came from. I think wikipedia can tell you more about it better than I can:

"Ernest Ranglin has claimed that the term was coined by musicians to refer to the "skat! skat! skat!" scratching guitar strum.[6] Another explanation is that at a recording session in 1959 produced by Coxsone Dodd, double bassist Cluett Johnson instructed guitarist Ranglin to "play like ska, ska, ska", although Ranglin has denied this, stating "Clue couldn't tell me what to play!".[7] A further theory is that it derives from Johnson's word skavoovie, with which he was known to greet his friends.[8] Jackie Mittoo insisted that the musicians themselves called the rhythm Staya Staya, and that it was Byron Lee who introduced the term 'ska'.[9]"

So Rock/Metal is a genre with eletric guitars, bass ,drums,maybe some techno stuff like keyboards etc and some vocals.

Are you referrring to any particular artist or song? I said ska was influenced by reggae, I didn't say it was the same thing.
